THEY LOOK LIKE ME

PROJECT BRIEF

The project entailed the design of a 32-page children's book titled "They Look Like Me," crafted to commemorate Black History Month for the Ivery family. Authored and illustrated by 7-year-old Mason Ivery, the book serves as a celebration of diversity and representation. Each page of the book showcases Mason's vibrant illustrations alongside engaging narratives that highlight the achievements and contributions of notable figures throughout Black history. With careful attention to detail and a commitment to honoring cultural heritage, the design process aimed to bring Mason's vision to life while ensuring the book's accessibility and appeal to young readers.

PROCESS

The technical process for designing the 32-page children's book "They Look Like Me" began with creating several design options for the Ivery family to consider. These options included variations in layout, typography, and color schemes to align with Mason Ivery's vision for the book. Once a direction was chosen, the focus shifted to illustrating characters and designing pages that captured the a colorful essence of Mason's illustrations and chosen quotes. Throughout the process, multiple feedback sessions were conducted with the client to ensure that Mason's vision was accurately represented and that the book resonated with its intended young audience.
