NEW YORKER COVER DESIGN

PROJECT BRIEF

Cover design for The New Yorker magazine to accompany the article "The First Images from the James Webb Telescope are Breathtaking - and Significant" by Rivka Galchen, July 2022. The cover features a visually striking representation of the honeycomb design of the James Webb Telescope, integrated with a photographic image captured by the telescope. The design aimed to capture the awe-inspiring beauty and scientific significance of the telescope's imagery.

PROCESS

The technical process of designing the cover for The New Yorker magazine began with thorough research into the James Webb Telescope's physical design and the imagery it captures. Several rough digital illustrations were created to offer visual ideas before deciding on a direction. Using Adobe Photoshop, the manipulation of the captured image were designed to seamlessly integrate it within the honeycomb framework. Iterative revisions are made to refine the composition, color palette, and overall visual impact before being formatted according to The New Yorker's specifications.
